Siegfried Meier - Alumni Spotlight

Siegfried Meier (’99) is a JUNO Award winning Record Producer, Recording Engineer, Mixer and Songwriter. He owns and operates Beach Road Studios, a beautiful resort-style recording compound featuring a large tracking room with a separate artist residence and high end mastering room, overlooking the sunsets and beaches of Lake Huron in Ontario, Canada. Since graduating from OIART’s music production school in 1999, Siegfried has worked with heavyweight Producers and Engineers such as Howie Weinberg (Green Day, Aerosmith, U2), Andy Wallace (Nirvana, Linkin Park, Jeff Buckley), Gggarth (Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Biffy Clyro), Joe Gastwirt (The Used, Face To Face), Troy Glessner (Copeland, Anberlin, Underoath), Tom Araya of Slayer and Mark Sparks (Will Smith, Salt-N-Pepa) to name a few. At Beach Road, Siegfried has produced, engineered, mixed or mastered records for bands such as Kittie, The Salads, Thine Eyes Bleed, The Reason, Craig Cardiff, Dayna Manning, Breaching Vista and hundreds more. His work has been featured in films such as Saw VI, Eurotrip and Limitless, and his work with pop artist Scotty James garnered them a Billboard Canada Top 16 hit. In 2013, Woods of Ypres’ “Grey Skies and Electric Light,” Produced and Engineered by Siegfried at Beach Road, won the JUNO Award for Best Metal/Hard Music Record of the Year.

In 2016, Siegfried moved to Los Angeles part-time, where he is producing and writing with various artists as well as working in legendary studios and currently creating a drum sample pack. He is also endorsed by Peluso Microphone Lab, SJC Drums, Radial Engineering, Universal Audio, Presonus, Plugin Alliance, Noble and Cooley, Heil Sound, Warm Audio, Roland, Fractal Audio among others. “OIART was the one school that stood out among all the others as being a great school with intelligent people teaching the courses,” Siegfried says, “and taking the tour only hammered down that fact more. They absolutely do know their stuff. The teachers are all professionals with years of experience in the recording industry. They have knowledge you just can’t get anywhere else.” Meier learned how to handle analog and digital gear at OIART and also got some music theory, a valuable addition to his education. “You learn a lot about the physiology of the ear,” he says. “They explain what we feel when we listen to sounds. Those were things that I had always pondered about, and a lot of things that nobody on the internet or any book could really explain to you. It helped me tremendously, especially working with bands in the studio."
