Shawn French (’06) made a bold career move when he returned to school as a 27 year old, leaving home in New Brunswick to attend OIART’s sound production course in London Ontario. Fortunately, the choice paid off. Since graduation, Shawn has worked on “a little bit of everything” related to TV and Film audio post-production: Foley, ADR, Sound Design, and Mixing. His credits include reality TV shows such as Master Chef Canada, Canada’s Worst Driver and Canada’s Worst Handyman,. He has had perhaps his greatest success to date with animated shows such as Almost Naked Animals and the 2015 Canadian Screen Award nominee for Best Animated Program or Series, “Grojband” on Teletoon, for which Shawn was Sound Effects Editor and Sound Re-Recording Mixer. He was also Dialogue Editor on the 2013 Gemini Award winner for Best Pre-School Program or Series, “Stella and Sam Holiday Specials” on Disney Jr. One of his favourite career memories to date is spending a month in Italy doing location sound on a film.
Shawn says he appreciates that “OIART doesn’t forget about you once you graduate. (Employment Counselor) Bob Breen still checks in from time to time, and he sends out job postings to alums on a regular basis. OIART is a great place to start your career!”
Thanks Shawn!
