Paul Williamson (86) is a lead sound re-recording mixer, handling the dialogue and music on television and film projects. He has been mixing at Technicolor Toronto (formerly PFA Film and Video) for over 22 years. Recent projects include An American Dream: The Education of William Bowman a feature film by Ken Finkleman, television series Colony for USA Network, Remedy for Global, Haven for NBC SyFy and Private Eyes, a new series coming to Global in summer 2016. Paul has been nominated 4 times for Gemini Awards (now called Canadian Screen Awards), winning twice in the Best Sound for a Dramatic Program category.
Paul’s audio career began at OIART, working as a teaching assistant the following year after graduating from the program. From there he moved to Toronto where he landed a job at PFA Film and Video as an audio transfer engineer. He quickly became the machine room operator for the mix theatre. After moving on to SFX (sound effects) and dialogue editing, he earned the opportunity to mix SFX and foley on television and film projects. Eventually he moved into the Lead Mixer position and is now responsible for the overall sound of each project, as well as handling schedules and dealing with sound editors, foley artists, producers, directors and broadcasters.
The audio education I received from OIART was instrumental to my career in the film and television industry. The knowledge and experience I gained provided the foundation for me to succeed.”
