Jakob Thiesen - Alumni Spotlight
Jeremy Alves | April 26, 2016
Sound Designer, Foley Artist, Composer and Sound Editor Jakob Thiesen graduated from OIART’s audio and music production program in ’98. He was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in 2016 for Outstanding Sound Editing for the show Annedroids, which was also nominated for multiple Canadian Screen Awards this year. You can hear his work as a location recordist on Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate and its follow up Assassin’s Creed: Unity. Throughout his lengthy career he has worked on numerous television shows, documentaries and video games.
Jakob says, “I loved my time at OIART! It balanced the technical nitty-gritty alongside momentous enthusiasm – both of which are non-negotiables to survive in any creative endeavor. One day would be patch bay signal flow drills, the next would be rolling ping pong balls inside a grand piano for Sound Design. I graduated OIART and soon after spent some years at a post audio facility, then went freelance. I am driven to stay as versatile as possible, by doing sound design for independent feature film and documentary, foley for children’s television, acting as a recordist for video games, as well I am recording a bespoke sound effects library. The relationships I have made by doing all of these things is it’s own reward.” Continued success Jakob!
