Kevin O’Leary - Alumni Spotlight
Jeremy Alves | March 1, 2016
Kevin O’Leary (’09) is a Toronto based engineer. After graduating from OIART’s audio and music production program, Kevin became the first lead assistant engineer at Noble Street Studios which produces numerous hits year after year. Striking out on his own as a freelance engineer last year, Kevin has worked on numerous Juno nominated projects with nine nominations this year alone. Kevin was an engineer on Pop Album of the Year nominee “Sing It All Away” by Walk Off The Earth and “Avalanche” by Kalle Mattson, nominated for Video of the Year. He also assisted on nominated projects by Shawn Mendez and The Tenors. In the past, Kevin has worked with Three Days Grace, Jill Barber, Barenaked Ladies, Billy Talent, The Tragically Hip, Danko Jones and Rush.
He can also say that he has recorded his namesake, Kevin O’Leary, from the show Dragon’s Den. Kevin returns to speak with our students every year about life in the world of the big recording facility.
Kevin said, “The program at OIART is designed in every way to prepare it’s grads for success in the professional audio world. In one year I learned more than I thought was possible in not only the technical aspects of recording, but also in important life skills and professional behaviour. I am constantly involved in new projects that span a diverse range of musical styles, so my job feels new and exciting every day. I would not be making a living doing what I love if it wasn’t for OIART and its amazing faculty.”
