Justin McDonough - Alumni Spotlight
Jeremy Alves | December 22, 2015
Grad Justin McDonough ’06 is an Edmonton based entrepreneur, musician, producer, songwriter, engineer and mixer. “Dunna” received the Kurosman Award for highest academic standing in his year. After a stint studying music at Grant McEwan University, while continuing to work as a musician, he founded Edmonton’s Resonate Music School & Studio in 2012. In 2014 and 2015, Resonate won the Top Choice award for Edmonton music school as well as achieving many accolades for his production work with local musicians. His talents in the studio with REND helped them win the Edmonton Music Award for Rock Recording of the Year (co-produced with fellow grad Kevin Hoskin ’05). In addition, Dunna produced and recorded three top-ten HOT 107 Hot Factor finalists including two winners; Mitchell Lawler and BLAZE. Lawler also won the Bell Media Emerging artist prize and the Edmonton Music Award for “Peoples’ Choice.”
Regarding OIART, Dunna says, “I’m still such an advocate for that place, whenever people ask me where they should go to learn to do what I do I harp on them to head your way.” Thanks Dunna!
