The Ontario Institute for Audio Recording Technology (OIART) proudly congratulates alumnus Matty Green (’03) and Jason Dufour (’07) following their 2017 JUNO nominations in the Recording Engineer of the Year category. Green’s nomination is for his work on “Shine A Light” BANNERS EP and Michelle Treacy’s “Armageddon” and Dufour has been nominated for July Talk’s “Push + Pull” and “Beck + Call.”
Green was previously nominated for a Grammy in 2015 in the Album of the Year category for his work as an engineer/mixer on Ed Sheeran’s “X” album. Currently based in Los Angeles, Green has been credited on albums by a wide spectrum of artists from across multiple genres including Lady GaGa, TV On The Radio, Gwen Stefani, Paul McCartney, The Weeknd and Taylor Swift.
Dufour has assisted on projects by The Barenaked Ladies, The Trews, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, Three Days Grace and legendary Canadian group Rush. Now independent and working as a freelance recording and mix engineer in Toronto, Dufour recently worked with iconic Canadian metal band Protest The Hero on their latest release “Volition” which won the award for best metal/hard music album of the year at the 2014 JUNO Awards. The album also hit #1 on the Billboard independent charts, and #3 on the Billboard hard rock album charts.
“I feel like OIART helped me to be ready for anything and everything. OIART really trains the students well to understand how ALL gear works instead of how a few pieces of gear work,” Green says of his time at OIART, “You can walk in anywhere and understand why something is doing something and what it’s going to do. OIART is giving students the knowledge to figure things out instead of training button pushing monkeys. The teachers are incredibly supportive and the extra help is there if you need it. OIART rocks, I really love that place.”
The JUNO Awards will be presented on April 2, 2017.
