“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing and learning to do.” – Pele
Congratulations to Victoria May, the winner of the 2017 Couvillon Memorial Award.
Vicky May is a freelance audio professional based in Toronto, Ontario. She currently is the Head Technician at the Liberty Grand, where she is responsible for overseeing the setup and operation of all of the building’s audio-visual needs, and managing the installation of any related hardware and technologies.
Throughout the past year, Vicky has demonstrated incredible resolve and drive to succeed. She has worked as an audio technician at Event Media Design, has recorded a full-length album with “Articles of War,” has worked as a Junior Music Supervisor at Supergroup Sonic Branding, and has interned part-time at Supersonics Post Production. Her keen and open personality has allowed her develop a diverse skillset and create opportunities for herself.
It is incredible that Vicky achieved many of these things while living in her hometown of Orillia, Ontario. Undaunted by the four-hour commute, Vicky would drive to and from Toronto to network and work. After three months, she had found enough work and saved enough money to move to Toronto.
Is it this sort of grit and dedication that makes us proud to call Vicky a 2016 OIART graduate and present her with the 2017 Couvillion Memorial Award. We wish her the best in all her future endeavours.
The Couvillon Memorial Award was created in memory of Kevin Couvillion. It was generously donated by the Couvillon family, who felt very strongly that Kevin’s experience here was life changing for him. Kevin graduated OIART in 2005, and passed away in the fall of 2010 after a lengthy and courageous battle with leukemia. He was only 26.
Kevin believed in staying local & being creative to find his way. He was open to many possibilities, networking & making a name for himself by giving his best and going beyond expectations in the quality of his work.
Kevin left behind not only a body of work, but a long trail of people who he had quietly helped, inspired, and motivated to greater heights. His legacy is truly how he went out into the world after graduating OIART and touched the lives of others. He became everything that we hope all our grads become.
The Kevin Couvillon Memorial Award is awarded to a graduate that discovered a new passion at OIART, went out into the world, applied the lessons they learned, and began to make a serious mark in the business.
