Jeremy Alves | July 28, 2016
Grad Simon Larochette is a recording engineer, multi-instrumentalist and owner of The Sugar Shack in London ON, working in genres ranging from country all the way to punk and metal. Graduating from our audio and music production course in 2008, Simon landed his first Juno nomination last year for the critically acclaimed debut album of the band Single Mothers, “Negative Qualities,” which he recorded entirely at the Sugar Shack. Simon was nominated for the 2016 “Producer/Engineer of The Year” at London Ontario’s Jack Richardson Music Awards, an award which he took home in 2013, and The Sugar Shack won “Best Recording Studio” at the 2014 London Music Awards. Over past few years Simon and his studio have remained extremely busy, hosting celebrated Canadian musicians including Spencer Burton, Jennifer Castle, Michael Feuerstack, Paper Beat Scissors and Olenka and The Autumn Lovers. He spoke to OIART students this summer about starting and growing your own recording studio business.
