Kristian Montano - Alumni Spotlight
Jeremy Alves | November 26, 2015
Kristian Montano (’11) is a mastering engineer working out of Toronto’s Lacquer Channel Mastering. Home of Canada’s only vinyl lacquer cutting lathe, Lacquer Channel is a world class facility with credits including artists such as Rush, Broken Social Scene, Peter Gabriel and Matt Mays. Here he has worked on a diversity of music ranging from folk to EDM to Serbian pop. Artists that Kristian has worked with include Operation MD, Steve Jocz (Sum 41) and Ninja Sex Party. Kristian also fronts the Toronto roots band Sun K who recently released their debut album “Northern Lies,” produced by Cone McCaslin (Sum 41, The Strumbellas), on MapleMusic Recordings. After touring it across Canada twice the record was short listed in the top 10 for the inaugural Allan Slate JUNO Masterclass.
Kristian says, “I meet OIART Grads in the industry everywhere I go. Whether it’s house engineers at big venues, producer/engineers at various studios or even Sun K’s FOH engineer Curtis Klein (’12). It’s no surprise why, like any good education, OIART gives you back exactly what you put in.”
