Jeremy Alves | December 6, 2016
Recording Engineer/Mixer/Music Producer and Videographer John “Wheels” Hurlbut has been a recording engineer and mixer for music, film and TV for almost 30 years since graduating from OIART’s audio production school in 1987. John started his career at Toronto’s legendary Manta Sound and he also did a stint at Oceanway Studios in LA. He is currently an active freelance recording engineer in Toronto. In 2007 John was asked to do music playback on the set of “The Rocker” starring Rainn Wilson and became an IATSE 873 member in 2009. He “moonlights” on film sets a few weeks a year working as an on set Pro Tools Playback operator which sounds easy but is a highly demanding job. His credits include Mike Myers’ The Love Guru, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, Crimson Peak, Pixels, Suicide Squad and Guillermo del Toro’s Shape of Water. John has expanded into video production in the last few years and has several clients including being the Videographer for the professional Ultimate sports team The Toronto Rush.
