STUDENT SUCCESS STORIES
OIART at the 2008 Grammys

OIART
Grad Matt Green (2003) worked on Kanye West's "Graduation",
which won 4 Grammy awards, for Rap Album, Song, Solo and Group
Performance. Matt also worked on Barbara Streisand's "Live
in Concert 2006" album, nominated for Traditional
Pop Vocal Album, and "Give it to Me" by Timbaland
featuring Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake, nominated
for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.
Congratulations to Ryan Castle (OIART Grad 1998), engineer of
the Best Song Written for Motion Picture or Television nominee, "You
Know My Name" from the Casino Royale Soundtrack,
by Chris Cornell from the album "Carry On", also engineered
by Ryan.
OIART
Grad Jeff Pelletier (2004) worked on Rihanna's "Good
Girl Gone Bad" nominated for numerous Grammy Awards.
Lastly,
congratulations to Dean Nelson (OIART Grad 2000), mix assistant
to Jack Joesph Puig on Fergie's "Big
Girl's Don't Cry", nominated for Best Female Pop
Vocal performance.
A
special congratulations to current OIART student Michael Tompkins,
who engineered Shad's "The Old Prince” in
his studio. Dubbed "Canada's Best Rapper" by the National
Post, Shad is nominated for Rap Recording of the Year.
Congratulations
also to R&B/Soul Album of the Year nominee artists God
Made Me Funky, who were recorded by OIART students in
2007 during the Student Recording Sessions.

guest lecturer and current Recording Engineer of the Year, John "Beetle" Bailey
is nominated again in the engineer category, as is our friend
and Audio Industry Advisory Committee member Kevin Churko, nominated
for his work in the past year with the legendary Ozzy
Osbourne.

Grad Jeff Pelletier (2004) worked on several Juno nominated albums:
International Album of the Year nominee Rihanna's "Good
Girl Gone Bad", R&B Soul Album of the Year
nominee Jully Black's "Revival", Vocal Jazz Album of
the Year nominee Michael Kaeshammer's "Day's Like
These", and the upcoming album by Group of the
Year nominee Finger Eleven. Jeff has also recently
worked on the new Rush and Thornley albums at Phase One Studios
in Toronto with producer Nick Raskulinecz. Great work Jeff!

Grad Wins the ECMA 2008
Technician/Engineer Award
OIART
Grad Michael Shepherd (1998) won the 2008 ECMA's Engineer of
the Year Award. Congratulations! The Technician/Engineer of the
Year award recognizes excellence in the fields of live sound,
lighting, technical, and sound engineering.
As
well, OIART Grad Mike Cashin (2000) engineered and assisted on
Nathan Wiley's ECMA nominated album, "The City Destroyed
Me", which was produced by OIART guest lecturer, the legendary
Steve Berlin of Los Lobos.
